Oscar (?) - Ada - Thomas Harrison Pollard |
Ada and Thomas had at least five children:- |
Thomas Horatio Pollard | born c1884 |
born c1887 |
Herbert Pollard |
born c1891 (To the family he was known as Harry). He joined the army in 1910 |
born 12th August 1894 (To the family he was known as Dick). He joined the army on the 11th October 1912. He was married to Alice Fields (born 19th March 1883 at Halls Yard, Cross Street, Scarborough). It is possible that any relatives of Oscar Ivan could be brca 2 gene mutation carriers. This can be passed down through the male and females lines and any children of brca 2 carriers have a 50 percent chance of having it too. Men who inherit it have an increased risk of prostate and other cancers. And it greatly increases the risk of ovarian and breast cancer in women. There is a test and genetic counseling available to any blood relatives (this info was kindly supplied by Christine Pollard who will supply a letter from the genetics department which can verify the mutation and concerned relatives can take this to their GP to get a referral - please contact her via email at c_j_ralph@hotmail.com if you have any concerns about this) Oscar was also the father of Norah Ditchburn's daughter Olive (born 16th July 1937). Oscar died on 3rd August 1966.

Wilfred Pollard |
born 12th August 1894. Twin to Oscar, he died as a baby, date not known. |
The 1891 census shows the family (Thomas & Ada, children Thomas Horatio, Conrad, and Herbert and Thomas’ sister Minnie (visiting)) living at 23 White X Buildings. |
During the First World War they lived in Auborough street, Scarborough. |
Thomas & all four children all served in the army & were the subject of an article in the Scarborough Evening News in 1915. |
Ada died on the 29th May 1936 at 18 Dean Road, Scarborough. (This address is probably St Mary’s Hospital, formerly the Workhouse). On her death certificate she is described as the widow of Thomas Harrison Pollard, a Master Tailor and their address is given as 4 North Terrace, Scarborough. It is not known at the moment when Thomas Harrison Pollard died, though he obviously pre-deceased Ada. |
