In October 2009 my wife Sheila bought me a Ukulele for my birthday on the off chance that it might interest me. I don't think she realised just what she had set in motion until it was too late! ...
I immediately fell in love with the instrument and spent all my spare time learning how to play it. This page will be dedicated to my progress with the Uke and feature a few videos of me playing.

For beginners who are interested in learning to play the Uke why not visit my new ukulele site where you can find my new series of Tutorials on how to play very easy ukulele, just click on this link:-

Here's a few things that I found invaluable when I first started:

(1) - A CHORD CHART (click on the highlighted text to go to the chord chart)

(2) - A NOTES CHART (ie a chart to show which note a string will sound when pressed at a certain fret)
(click on the highlighted text to go to the notes chart)
(3) - A TUNER (click on the highlighted text to go to the online tuner) Ideally get a clip on tuner from a Music Store or look for one on Ebay, you can get one for under a tenner.
(4) - Some EASY SONGS to play (click on the highlighted text to go to the easy songs)

Below are my latest YouTube videos, the first is an instrumental version of a song by Blackmore's Night called 'The Way To Mandalay'.
I played Uke and Mandolin and an Austrian friend of mine (Valentin Obergruber) played Uke and Acoustic Guitar.
(For the technically minded, the 'Electric' Uke sound was got by recording the Uke acoustically through a Microphone as normal and then playing the track in Cubase through a Guitar Rig plug-in and then adding some delay and reverb before passing the whole thing through a compressor/limiter).
I recorded and mixed the track at Soundscape Studios in Shrewsbury which is run by my good friend Gair Davies.
We then used 2 cameras to video ourselves playing the instruments again to add to the live video footage and I remixed the video on Adobe Premiere.
The second is a version of 'I wanna be like you' from the Jungle Book.
I played Uke, Mandolin, Bass, Flute, Drums and Percussion and sang all the vocals.
Again I recorded and mixed the track at Soundscape Studios in Shrewsbury.
I filmed the video in my garage using a HD webcam and a homemade greenscreen and again I mixed the video on Adobe Premiere.
The third is my own composition and is called 'Molly'
I played Uke, Mandolin and keyboards. The Bass & Drums are samples.
Again I recorded and mixed the track at Soundscape Studios in Shrewsbury,
filmed the video in my garage using a cheap camcorder and a homemade bluescreen and mixed the video on Adobe Premiere.

The fourth is an adaptation of an Ivor Biggun song called 'Dead Dog Rover'
I played Uke, and keyboards and sang the vocals. The Bass & Drums are samples.
Again I recorded and mixed the track at Soundscape Studios in Shrewsbury.
The video was shot during Christmas week 2010 in my back garden using a cheap camcorder and mixed in Adobe Premiere.
The fifth is an instrumental version of a song by Blackmore's Night called 'Empty Words'
I played Uke, and keyboards . The Bass & Drums are samples.
Again I recorded and mixed the track at Soundscape Studios in Shrewsbury.
The video was shot in the studio control room and mixed in Adobe Premiere.
The sixth is another version of the above song , this time with Vocals.

The seventh is called 'Ingelheim Rock' and is a collaboration with an old friend of mine called Ken Evans (a.k.a. Ken Chilada).
Based upon our experiences when we went to play at the Beltane festival at Ingelheim in Germany in 1993.
Ken plays guitar and wrote the music, I played flute and wrote and sang the lyrics.
Recorded at Soundscape Studios March 2011
.

The eighth is called 'Ghosts On Tape' and again is a collaboration with Ken Evans (a.k.a. Ken Chilada).
Ken and I actually began writing this song in 1993 and never really finished it so we decided to resurrect it for YouTube. So this song has been nearly 18 years in the making... The sentiment remains the same, though sadly a lot more singers/songwriters/rock stars etc have joined the list. No list could ever be complete so these are the names that either particularly mean something to myself or Ken or just had to be on the list...
Recorded at Soundscape Studios April 2011
.

In August 2011 this song was included on a compilation CD called ShropRock -
a CD featuring songs from unsigned artists and bands from all over Shropshire

In January/February 2012 I entered the song in an online song competition where it won first place in the 'Blues' category
and then went on to get 4th place in the overall competition

The ninth is called 'The Path' and again is a collaboration with Ken Evans (a.k.a. Ken Chilada).
Ken plays guitar and wrote the music, I played ukulele and wrote the lyrics, which are sung by Sheila's son Peter. Sheila sang the backing vocals. ~
Sheila's other son Adam also appears along with his girlfriend Hattie
Recorded at Soundscape Studios May 2011
.

The tenth is a cover version of 'The Monster Mash' which I recorded for Halloween 2011
Recorded at Soundscape Studios October 2011
.

The eleventh is another version of my first video, 'The way To Mandalay' re-recorded and remixed with added vocals sung by me.
Recorded at Soundscape Studios November 2011
.

The twelfth is my own composition and is a vocal version of 'Molly' called 'Time On My Side' and features a new video.
I played Uke, Mandolin and keyboards. The Bass & Drums are samples.
I remixed the track and added vocals in February 2012 at Soundscape Studios in Shrewsbury,
filmed the video in my garage using a HD webcam and a homemade greenscreen and mixed the video on Adobe Premiere.
The 13th is my own composition and is called 'Don't Knock It ('til you've tried it)'
I played Uke, keyboards & Bass the Drums are programmed.
I recorded the track in October 2012 at Soundscape Studios in Shrewsbury, where I also
filmed the video using a HD webcam and mixed it on Adobe Premiere.
