Crop Report
During the summer the promise of harvest was excellent but during the latter part of July there were heavy rainstorms which completely ruined much of the barley crop. Wheat & Oats are very good. Harvesting was a tedious job owing to the crops being laid also to heavy rains in the middle of harvest. The crops of hay were in the most cases light owing to drought. Potatoes very good. Turnips fair.Owing to the war prices for grain were much better for wheat and oats than usual. The demand for malting barley was poor. The reason given being that owing to the troops being in France, and the early closing of public houses, much less beer was required.Prices
