JOHN SONLEY was born in 1757.
Details of where John was born are not yet available.
On the 23rd February 1777 he married JANE BREWER at Stonegrave Minster.

John was described as a ‘farmer’ from West Ness.
John and Jane had eight children :-

born 15th April 1783
JOHN   (Sunley)
born 26th August 1784, died 20th April 1785 - buried at Stonegrave Church
HANNAH  (Sonley)
born  February 1786 (baptised 3rd February 1786)
born 1788
ANN   (Sunley)
born 10th May 1789, died 12th May 1789 - buried at Stonegrave Church

Sadly Jane (snr) died on the 16th January 1797 - she is buried at Stonegrave Minster.

On the 7th January 1799  John (born 1757) married MARY HARKER  (born in 1774 at Cawton, a small village in the North Riding of Yorkshire) at Stonegrave Minster, their marriage certificate showed that John was a ‘labourer’ from West Ness & Mary was ‘of the parish of Oswaldkirk’. (although she was born at nearby Cawton).

They settled at West Ness, a small agricultural village on the banks of the River Rye, in the heart of Ryedale, between Malton and Helmsley, North Riding of Yorkshire.

They had ten children all born at West Ness:- ...

John (Snr) died at West Ness on the 19th February 1826 aged 69 and was buried at Stonegrave Minster.

Mary (Snr) died at West Ness on the 7th August 1857 when she was 83 years of age and was also buried at Stonegrave Minster.
