JOHN COWTON born c1633
ALL EVENTS AT HUNMANBY UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED
JOHN COWTON was born circa 1633 probably the son of William and Ann Cowton. He was buried 15th July 1692.
ISABELLA the wife of John Cowton was buried 8th October 1665. She may have died in childbirth as twins John and Thomas were born on this date (sadly neither twin survived very long).
John and Isabella had eight children:-

born 14th February 1652.
died March 25th 1714. Sometimes listed as VALONTINO.
MARGARET
born 6th May 1655.
died 10th October 1659.
DAVID
born 8th January 1658.
JOAN
born 17th September 1658.
Married to Henry Simpson 9th November 1685.
MARJERY
born 5th October 1659.
probably didn’t survive.
MARJERY
born 18th May 1662.
JOHN
born 8th October 1665.
died 25th December 1665. Twin
THOMAS
born 8th October 1665.
died 28th June 1666. Twin
John was married to ANN (FARTHING) 26th November 1666. (Ann, wife of John Cowton was buried 4th May 1737 – could be Ann (Binnington) below**)
John and Ann had two children:-

VALONTINE born 14th February 1652, was married on the 30th November 1680 to ANN (PALLOWICK). They had seven children:-

Married to Ann (Binnington) on the 16th February 1709.(She may be the Ann buried on the 4th May 1737 – see above**).

born 19th October 1684.
died 26th April 1686.

born 14th August 1687.
died 19th December 1734.

SAMUEL
born 31st August 1690.
died 8th February 1742.
JOSEPH
born 7th May 1693.
ANN
born 1st November 1695.(could be 1696)
DAVID born 14th August 1687, died 19th December 1734 at Reighton but was buried at Hunmanby. He is shown working as a Blacksmith aged 13 in Hunmanby in 1700. His wife may have been Ann Cowton, widow of Reighton, who was buried at Hunmanby 19th June 1738. David had the following children:-

JOHN born 15th March 1715, at Reighton, married MARY (BOWZER)(born 20th July 1707 South Dalton) at Hunmanby on the 1st January 1738. They were Baptists.
John and Mary had the following children:-

born 4th January 1744.
died 6th January 1744.
JOSEPH
born 3rd February 1745
Baptised 2nd March 1745 at Hunmanby. Died 31st March 1819.
SAMUEL
born 24th December 1749.
Married to Ann (no marriage details). They had two children about which there is slight confusion:-

born 9th October 1767 (IGI) or 1787 (PR).
SAMUEL
born 4th October 1789 (PR).
JOSEPH had the following children:-

BENJAMIN was married On the 25th November 1806, at Hunmanby, to SARAH (BARKER)(Born 11th January 1785 at Middleton-On-The-Wold, buried 7th November 1865 at Hunmanby). They had the following children:-

JOSEPH was married in 1837 to SUSANNAH (ALLMAN)(Born 27th August 1815 at Skipsea, died 1880). Joseph and Susannah had the following children:-

THOMAS
born 1840 at Reighton.
JOHN
born 21st September 1844 at Reighton.
died 30th January 1804.
MARY ANN
born 1847 at Reighton.
WILLIAM

died 9th March 1916 at Bempton.
WILLIAM was married in 1877 to ANN ELIZA (MOORE)(Born 1855 at Bempton, died 12th August 1941 at Bempton). William and Ann had the following children:-

died 9th November 1951 at Acomb, York.

born 1880 at Bempton.
SUSANNAH
born 1881 at Bempton.
died 11th November 1977 at Bempton.

WILLIAM EWART
born 1899 at Bempton.
THOMAS was married at Sewerby on the 29th November 1915 to ELLEN CONSTANCE (SHIELDS)(Born 29th July 1887 at Sewerby, died 28th December 1959 at Acomb). Thomas and Ellen had the following child:-
died 9th May 1999 at Scarborough. Lorna was married at Acomb, York on the 14th June 1946 to James Arthur Robson (Born 12th November 1908 at Middlesborough, died 20th October 1986 at Whitby). They had the following child:-
Marcia Gail Robson, born 29th April 1947 at York. Marcia is married to Colin Goler, born 2nd July 1942 at Warwick.
