Marriage bond for 
John Belch & Susan Basset 1747

 

Know all Men by these Presents that We John
Balch of the parish of Atcham &
Henry Basset of the parish of Kenley
both in the County of Salop --
are held and firmly bound to Richard Smalbroke Doctor of Laws
Vicar general of the Diocese of Lichfield and Coventry
in the sum of One hundred ----
Pounds of lawful money of Great-Britain, to be paid to
the said Richard Smalbroke –
or his certain Attorney Executors Administrators or Assigns ;
for the true Payment whereof we bind ourselves and each ---
--- of us by himself for the whole and every Part thereof
And the Heirs Executors and Administrators of us and each
--- of us firmly by these Presents.     Sealed with our Seals
Dated the fourth Day of November in the twenty
first Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the
Second – by the Grace of God of Great-Britain, France and
Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith. And in the Year of Our
Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Forty Seven.

The Condition of this Obligation is such, That if
there shall not hereafter appear any Lawful Lett or Impediment, by reason
of any Pre-contract, Consanguinity, Affinity, or any other just Cause
whatsoever ; but that John Balch of the parish of Atcham
aged 27 years, Batchelor & Susan Basset
of the same parish, aged 29 years, Spinster
may lawfully marry together; and that there is not any Suit depending
before any Judge Ecclesiastical or Civil, for or concerning any such Pre-
contract : And that the Consent of the Parents, or others the Governors
of the said Parties, be thereunto first had and obtain’d : And that they
cause their said Marriage to be openly solemniz’d in the Face of the
Parish Church of Frodesley in the Diocese of Lich;& Cov.
Between the Hours of Eight  and Twelve of the Clock in the Forenoon :
And do and shall save harmless and keep indemnified the abovenamed
Richard Smalbroke – his Surrogates, and all other
his Officers and Successors in Office, for and concerning the Premises ;
That then this Obligation to be Void and of none Effect, or else to
Remain in full Force and Virtue.

                        Henry Basset

          November 4th 1747. John Balch of the parish
of Atcham, Batchelor, obtained a Licence to marry
Susan Basset of the same parish, Spinster ; making Oath,
that there was no just Cause, but that they two might
be joined together in Matrimony ; & Henry Basset of Kenley
testifying the same before me,
